DEVELOPMENT OF CLINICAL EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM, UNIVERSITY OF DIPONEGORO

The UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine educational institution, in 1968, created an institutional structure of  “Educational Substance” in sections with various educational activities, research and community service. In the course of education, the Nutrition Department has joined the dr. Kariadi. The journey of the UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine Nutrition Department from year to year has added teaching staff, facilities, infrastructure to carry out the mandate of education, research and service. Around the 1980s, the UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine Nutrition Department was in accordance with the development of science and medical technology, in line with the demands of medical services, in line with the demands of medical services initiated by the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) so that accreditation was carried out for teaching staff of the UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine Nutrition section. Those who have completed postgraduate education and have provided nutrition services in hospitals for at least 5-6 years are accredited to get the title of Nutritionist Doctor. The UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine awarded the title Doctor of Nutritionist to 6 people in 1983 Referring to the Diponegoro University Development and Rehabilitation Plan, which was supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1993 to improve the quality of education, there are 6 development target faculties: Animal Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Medicine and Public Health and rectorate functional units such as libraries, language laboratories and other central facilities. In the medical field, there are development targets in the field of Human Resources (in the form of Fellowship), Academic (in the form of developing new study programs) and the provision of infrastructure such as: building buildings to find campus locations, building laboratory building infrastructure and other infrastructure. Due to the 1998 monetary crisis, its program was hampered due to chaotic financial arrangements. Planning in 1989, which finished its program in 1998, then rearranged a new proposal for the sustainable development of UNDIP from the Japan International consortium. One of its implementations was the Proposal for the Establishment of Medical Nutrition Specialist Doctor Education, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University

The Indonesian people through the X decision of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) in 1999 agreed to implement “Recovery and Rebuilding Human Resources (HR) as the main priority of National Development”. Of the various determinants of morbidity and mortality, nutritional factors are the main determinant, because of the importance of nutrition for national development. In the field of nutrition itself, Indonesia still faces nutritional problems such as Vitamin A deficiency (KVA), nutritional anemia, disorders due to lack of Iodine (GAKI) and lack of protein energy (KEP).

Nutritional problems, apart from infectious diseases, are a direct cause of illness and death both in the community and in the hospital (RS). Nutritional problems in hospitals that are manifested by a lack of protein energy (KEP) are a health service problem in both developed and developing countries. KEP at the Universitas Teaching Hospital Faculty of Medicine  reaches 50% – 70%, this is a predictor for the length of stay and the high number of readmissions to the hospital and ultimately increases Morbidity and Mortality. In 2003, a Medical Nutrition Specialist Doctor Education Proposal was prepared at the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University.

The purpose of education for a medical specialist in Medical Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University is to provide knowledge, attitudes and skills for medical nutrition for doctors as experts for patient care both in hospitals and in the community. Medical Nutrition Specialist Doctor Education is education with the scope of applied science to solve nutritional problems that intersect with diagnosis, treatment, patient care and rehabilitation. The development of medical nutrition doctor education is also expected to position the provision of rational nutritional therapy.

At the beginning of the Proposal preparation was coordinated by DR. dr. Darmono SS, MPH. SPGM, who at that time served as the Head of the Nutrition Installation at Dr Kariadi Hospital. Some of the names and positions of functionaries of the Medical Nutrition Specialist Doctor Education Program which are listed in the proposal include: Prof. DR. dr.
